Simple Image Editing & Hosting
By: Alister Cameron
A mentor of mine once said, "The simple is beyond the complex."
What I would add to that is that something that has been simplified down to is core and essential components is a beautiful thing to behold. I feel that way about Wiredness, a new online image editor.
Man, this thing is so simple I was initially wondering where the rest of it was. And it works so well too!
The featureset of Wiredness will almost certainly grow over time. You just know that's what will happen. But what's there now is very nice. Follow the simple workflow with me (it really is this simple):
1. Load a file locally or via a URL.
2. Crop it, resize it, blur it, add text to it… whatever you want from the features presently available.
3. Either save it back to your local machine or transfer it over to one of two online photo storage services (Glowfoto or ImageShack), or email it to someone (from within Wiredness).
4. Wonder at the ease of it all.
What's very impressive is that pretty much all these steps are one-click operations or near enough to that.
Finally, there's Flickr integration. Very very nice.
So if you're a newbie blogger looking to tweak an image in a simple way and you don't have Photoshop, this might just do the trick for you. Certainly cropping, resizing, red-eye removal and other such tasks are so so easy to achieve, and fast!
Here's a photo I created, via an in-built Flickr search for "waterfall australia", with some added text and sepia effect, and hosting at Glowfoto (don't know how long it will be there):
Now can someone explain the name to me? Makes no sense at all.
